Islands

Great Exuma and the Exuma Cays are a chain of islands stretching over 100 miles in the south-central Bahamas. Kevalli House is on Stocking Island, a pristine and remote, yet conveniently located cay (pronounced “key”) just 1.5 miles across Elizabeth Harbour from George Town, Great Exuma. Direct flights from Nassau, Florida (Miami and Fort Lauderdale), Atlanta, Charlotte, and Toronto make Great Exuma and Kevalli House very accessible.

Weather

The Bahamas sees more than 300 days of sunshine a year. During the summer months, the temperature rarely goes above 90°F (32°C). The normal climate during winter is mild with temperatures around 70°F (16°C). The Northern and Western islands, Grand Bahama Island, Great Abaco, Andros, and Eleuthera are somewhat cooler than the southern islands. Water temperatures average 80°F year-round.

Economy

The official language spoken in the Bahamas is English. The local currency is the Bahamian dollar (BS), but it’s tied to the US dollar at a 1:1 ratio and US dollars are accepted everywhere at par. There is no need for Americans to change money, and many tourist-oriented businesses will even give change back in US$.
